Callum Hedge dominates Carrera Cup at The Bend
New Zealand star Callum Hedge has dominated Round 4 of the Porsche Carrera Cup Australia Championship, winning all three races.
The 18 year old was in fine form, qualifying on pole for the third time in 2023.
His pole joy was overshadowed when he copped a three grid place penalty for impeding another driver during the session, but was able to quickly put the penalty into the back of his mind, racing through to lead at the first corner to score an unchallenged win.
Sunday morning's second, longer race was another lights-to-flag effort, before completing the clean-sweep in the afternoon's finale.
Hedge was pleased with his performance at The Bend.
"It was a strong weekend here at the Bend," said Hedge.
"I really enjoy this track. We had good speed last year, just didn’t manage to get the result with a mechanical failure.
"Coming into this weekend, there was a bit of expectation to go and redeem ourselves. We put the car on pole, got a grid penalty, and then fought back to the front.
"Managed to win all 3 races this weekend, so it was a pretty perfect weekend.
"We’ve had really good speed all year. We’ve scored three of the four pole positions, but its weird to get our first race win of the season this weekend.
"It’s great to get the monkey off the back, and get some wins on the board, and also take the championship lead.
"I had great fun this weekend, and some really good battles with Jackson Walls. Was unfortunate to see him spin, but I’m excited to keep our close racing going for the remaining rounds."
The results mean that Hedge is now firmly leading the title, sitting 28 points clear of rival Jackson Walls with three rounds remaining.
The next round will be held at Sandown in three weeks time.
