Hedge rebounds for Round Win

Callum Hedge has extended his championship lead after a challenging Round 4 of Formula Regional Americas at New Jersey Motorsport Park.

The weekend started well for the 19-year old Kiwi, claiming pole position by six-tenths, but a slow jump off the line forced Callum to fight hard for position. Dropping to 2nd, the #17 Giltrap Group/Tony Quinn Foundation F3 car struggled with tyre life. Hedge crossed the line in 2nd, ahead of his championship rival, but would only manage the 4th fastest lap.

With the fastest lap times setting the grid for the following race, Hedge started 4th, and corrected his start technique to be in second position by the first turn. By lap two, Hedge had made a pass for the lead, and claimed the race win.

Callum started from pole, and lead the race lights to flag to take victory, and extend his championship lead.

”All in all, my weekend in New Jersey was a success. I extend my championship lead to 55 Points, heading into the season break” said Hedge.

“It’s very cool to be having lots of success in single seaters this year! It’s a different style of driving but I think it suits my driving well. I’m able to throw the car around and really do what I want with it!”

The Formula Regional Americas championship enters a mid-season break, with Round 5 scheduled for October.

“With the two month break, my focus turns to having a solid next few rounds of Porsche Carrera Cup as it is vital to be leading the Michelin Junior championship after Sandown. As this is when the Michelin Junior who gets sent to Europe for the Porsche Junior Shootout will be decided. Plus. I am working really hard on improving my fitness as this is becoming more important as we eye up next years options” Hedge continued.

Callum Hedge returns to Australia next week for Round 4 of Porsche Carrera Cup Australia, to be held at The Bend circuit in South Australia on 18th-20th August.
