‘What could have been’ weekend in Townsville

Callum Hedge has recovered from an early setback at Round 4 of Porsche Carrera Cup Australia in Townsville, Queensland.

Setting the pace early, by topping Practice 2, and taking his second pole position for the season, Callum lead lights to flag in Race 1. However, a rival team lodged a protest for a warm up infringement, which saw the #17 Porsche docked five positions.

Callum started Race 2 from 6th position, but his speed was evident, moving from sixth to third in the opening lap.

Hedge would hold third, and finish third in race two and three, to consolidate 4th overall, from a challenging weekend.

Despite the setback, Callum has moved to second in the championship, 20 points behind first, with five rounds remaining in the 2023 season.

“For me, to be honest, it was actually a really disappointing weekend.” said Hedge.

“We had the speed to to win. We qualified on pole, won the first race, then got a penalty.

“I fought through the third in the second race, then held position in race three.

Really disappointed to get the penalty in the first race, but we managed to limit the damage in the championship.

“We’ll push on to the Bend in August, and just a massive thank you to Team Porsche New Zealand and Monochrome Asset Management for making this happen for me.”
