Impressive Carrera Cup debut for Callum Hedge
Young Kiwi Callum Hedge impressed on his Porsche Carrera Cup Australia debut at the Bathurst doubleheader.
Hedge had a difficult lead in after being forced to complete 72 hours quarantine upon arrival into Australia and arriving at Bathurst just an hour before the opening Porsche Carrera Cup Australia session.
Having never been to Bathurst before, Hedge made a good account of himself to be 16th and just four places behind seven-time 1000 winner Craig Lowndes.
Racing for Earl Bamber Motorsport, Hedge qualified 17th and finished the opening race 14th ahead of teammate Matt Payne.
In a shortened Race 2, Hedge progressed to 12th and recorded his best result of the weekend in Saturday’s third event to be ninth at the flag.
Another top 10 result completed the weekend marking an impressive debut for the young Kiwi, who completed two rounds of Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge earlier this year winning during a wet Race 2 to be placed third in the series.

“It was a really awesome weekend,” Hedge said. “I did my first laps of the Mountain, which was a bit of a childhood dream.
“I got here on Sunday and I was in quarantine an hour before the first practice session on Wednesday. I went out onto the track; it was pretty hard the first time being here, especially in Carrera Cup as well.
“I hadn’t driven a Porsche for a few months so I didn’t really qualify where I wanted to, but each session I was making gains and moved forward about a second each session, which was really positive.
“Finished ninth in my best race and 10th in the last one so all in all a really good weekend.”
